Gmail Setup

Secure Gmail Setup For Turohelper

Use a dedicated Gmail inbox for Turohelper instead of connecting the Gmail account that signs in to Turo. This limits Turohelper to trip-event emails and keeps login codes, security alerts, and personal messages out of the connected mailbox.

Recommended Account Layout

  • Keep the primary Gmail account connected to Turo. This account may receive login confirmation codes, security messages, and other sensitive account emails.
  • Create a separate Gmail account used only for Turohelper trip ingestion, such as a team operations inbox.
  • Forward only matching Turo trip-event emails from the primary Gmail account to the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account.
  • Connect Turohelper's Gmail Inbox setting only to the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account.

Why This Matters

Turohelper uses read-only Gmail access, but read-only still means the app can view messages in the connected mailbox. A dedicated inbox keeps the mailbox intentionally narrow, so Turohelper sees trip events without seeing unrelated Turo login codes or personal mail.

Create The Gmail Filters In The Primary Turo Gmail Account

In Gmail settings for the primary Turo mailbox, add the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account as a forwarding address. Then create filters for the trip-event subjects below. For each filter, choose the action to forward the message to the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account. Do not enable broad forwarding for all mail.

  • from:(noreply@mail.turo.com) subject:("trip with your" "is booked")
  • from:(noreply@mail.turo.com) subject:"has changed their trip with your"
  • from:(noreply@mail.turo.com) subject:"has cancelled their trip"
  • from:(noreply@mail.turo.com) subject:("confirmed" "change request")
  • from:(noreply@mail.turo.com) subject:(has an upcoming trip with your)
  • from:(noreply@mail.turo.com) subject:(accepted your vehicle swap request)

Label The Forwarded Emails In The Dedicated Turohelper Gmail

In the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account, create a label named Turohelper Trip events. Create matching filters for the forwarded Turo trip-event emails and apply that label. Turohelper watches only this label when Gmail watch is active.

  • The label name in Gmail should match the Gmail Watch Label field in Turohelper settings.
  • The default label name is Turohelper Trip events.
  • After setup, Turohelper Settings -> Gmail Inbox should show the dedicated mailbox address, not the primary Turo login mailbox.

Connect Turohelper

  • Open Turohelper Settings -> Gmail Inbox.
  • Click Connect Gmail or Reconnect Gmail.
  • When Google asks which account to use, select the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account.
  • If Google shows an unverified-app warning during review, continue only if you are the approved admin and you are connecting the dedicated Turohelper Gmail account.
  • After connecting, click Load recent trip-event emails to confirm only expected Turo trip emails appear.

What Not To Forward

  • Do not forward Turo login confirmation codes.
  • Do not forward password reset emails.
  • Do not forward security alerts, billing messages, personal emails, or all mail.
  • Do not connect Turohelper directly to the primary Gmail account that is used to sign in to Turo.
